India’s active coronavirus caseload rose for the sixth time this week sparking fears of a fresh wave of the pandemic, even as vaccinations crossed the 1-crore mark.
India added nearly 14,000 new cases in 24 hours according to the health ministry’s update as of 8 a.m on Feb. 20. That’s more than the 10,300 recoveries in the same period, taking active cases above 1.4 lakh.
Authorities reported 101 deaths in a day, taking total fatalities to over 1.56 lakh. This accounts for 1.42% of the total 1.09 crore coronavirus cases detected in India.
At the same time, 1,07,15,204 beneficiaries have been vaccinated so far with over 5 lakh of them receiving their shots in the last 24 hours. India is currently focussed on vaccinating its healthcare and frontline workers.
